Vehicles that are required to visit a STAR Smog Check Station for their CA smog testing and smog repairs are those vehicles with excessively high emissions levels based on their smog check history, likelihood to fail their next inspection and other vehicle data. Your vehicle’s registration renewal notice from the Department of Motor Vehicles will tell you if your automobile is required to receive its inspection from a STAR Certified Smog Check Station. The front of your vehicle registration renewal notice will say “SMOG Certification Required at a STAR station” and more instructions will be provided on the back.
