    • Connected a scan tool and found code P0420 – Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1). Performed a visual inspection of the catalytic converter (B1) and found no obvious faults. Used a non-contact pyrometer to measure the temperatures of the catalytic converter (B1) inlet and catalytic converter (B1) outlet and found the measured inlet temperature was greater than the measured outlet temperature, which indicated the catalytic converter (B1) was internally faulty. Tapped on the catalytic converter (B1) with a rubber mallet and heard a rattling from within the converter, which verified the converter was defective. The results of these tests verified the catalytic converter (B1) was faulty.
