Services
Every service, spelled out
No vague 'auto repair' bullet points. Each service page below lists exactly what's included, the symptoms it addresses, our four-step process, typical timelines and the questions people actually ask. We specialize in Japanese vehicles — Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru and Mazda.
Smog Check, Brake & Lamp
STAR certified smog testing, failed-smog repair, CARB-legal converters and official DMV brake and lamp inspections — all certified in one place.
STAR Certified Smog Check
A licensed STAR test-and-repair station — we can test it and fix it.
Official STAR station smog inspection for every California vehicle, including STAR-directed cars.
We are a California licensed STAR certified smog station in Murrieta. That matters because the DMV directs a share of vehicles to a STAR station only — a regular test-only shop legally cannot certify those cars. Bring us your renewal notice and we handle it either way.
Most inspections take about 20–30 minutes. Results are transmitted electronically to the DMV the moment your vehicle passes, so in most cases you can renew online before you leave the parking lot.
What's included
- STAR certified smog inspection (test-only and test-and-repair)
- Standard biennial renewal, change-of-ownership and out-of-state registration smogs
- OBD-II functional and visual emissions inspection
- Gross polluter and STAR-directed vehicle testing
- Electronic results transmitted directly to the DMV
- Certificate printed at the counter
- Free retest after we perform the qualifying repair
- Honest pre-check before you pay for a test you will fail
Symptoms we fix
- DMV renewal notice says smog certification required
- Notice says the vehicle must be tested at a STAR station
- Buying or selling a vehicle in California
- Registering a car brought in from out of state
- Check engine light on before a scheduled test
Failed Smog Diagnosis & Repair
Failed somewhere else? We diagnose the real cause instead of parts-cannoning it.
Emissions diagnostics and repair for vehicles that failed the smog test, plus a free retest.
A failed smog report is a list of symptoms, not a diagnosis. High NOx, high HC, a monitor that will not set, an EVAP leak, a P0420 catalyst code — each has several possible causes, and replacing a converter to chase a fuel-trim problem is an expensive way to fail twice.
We read the failure report, verify with live data and pinpoint testing, then quote the repair that actually returns the vehicle to spec. Retest here is free after we do the qualifying work.
What's included
- Full read of the state failure report line by line
- OBD-II live data, fuel trim and readiness monitor analysis
- Oxygen and air/fuel ratio sensor testing
- Catalytic converter efficiency testing before replacement
- EVAP smoke testing for leaks and gas cap faults
- EGR, PCV, ignition and vacuum leak repair
- Drive cycle to set readiness monitors
- Free retest after qualifying repairs
Symptoms we fix
- Failed for high HC, CO or NOx
- P0420 / P0430 catalyst efficiency code
- Not-ready monitors after a battery disconnect
- EVAP or gas cap failure
- Check engine light on at the test
Catalytic Converter Replacement
California legal converters only — anything else fails the visual inspection.
CARB-compliant converters installed and verified so the vehicle passes California smog.
California does not accept federal EPA converters on most vehicles. We install CARB-compliant units with the required EO number stamped and documented, so the visual portion of your smog inspection passes as cleanly as the tailpipe portion.
Before we quote a converter we confirm the converter is actually the failed part. A converter killed by a misfire or a leaking injector will die again in months if the upstream cause stays.
What's included
- Converter efficiency and upstream/downstream O2 testing
- CARB-compliant (EO numbered) converter supply and installation
- Front and rear oxygen sensor replacement when needed
- Exhaust leak repair, flanges, gaskets and hangers
- Root-cause repair so the new converter survives
- Drive cycle and readiness monitor verification
- Smog retest in our own STAR lane
- Documentation for the visual inspection
Symptoms we fix
- P0420 or P0430 catalyst efficiency below threshold
- Rotten-egg smell from the exhaust
- Rattle from under the car on start-up
- Loss of power or a plugged, restricted exhaust
- Failed the tailpipe or visual smog inspection
Smog Check & Emissions
Pass it, or find out exactly why it didn't.
Smog inspection, failed-smog diagnosis and emissions repair for cars, trucks and vans.
A smog failure is a diagnostic job, not a parts job. We test, read the readiness monitors and the failure report, then find the actual cause — a lazy oxygen sensor, an EVAP leak, a failing catalytic converter, a misfire, or simply a monitor that never completed a drive cycle.
We handle the inspection and the repair, so you are not bouncing between a test-only station and a repair shop with nobody owning the outcome.
What's included
- Smog inspection for cars, light trucks and vans
- Readiness-monitor check and drive-cycle completion
- Failed-smog diagnosis with the failure report explained line by line
- Oxygen sensor, catalytic converter and EVAP repair
- EVAP smoke testing for leak codes
- Misfire and fuel-trim correction before retest
- Gas-cap, purge-valve and vent-solenoid service
- Retest coordination after repairs
Symptoms we fix
- Failed smog test at another station
- Check engine light on before a registration deadline
- Not ready monitors after a battery disconnect or code clear
- Fuel smell or EVAP-related codes
- Rough idle, hesitation or poor fuel economy
Official Brake & Lamp Inspection
Get your certificate the same day, no second stop needed.
DMV-required brake and lamp inspection and certification for registration, salvage, title and out-of-state vehicles.
California requires a current brake and lamp inspection certificate for certain registration, salvage, title and out-of-state transactions. We are a licensed official brake and lamp station, so we can inspect, certify and sign you off in the same visit.
We inspect the brake system and every required exterior lamp to DMV standards. If something fails, we can fix it here — pads, rotors, hoses, lines, bulbs, sockets, wiring, switches and more — then issue the certificate without sending you to another shop.
What's included
- Official DMV brake and lamp inspection certificate
- Brake pad, rotor, caliper, hose, line and fluid inspection
- Parking brake adjustment and operation check
- Headlight, taillight, brake light and turn signal verification
- Reverse light, license plate light and marker light check
- Hazard warning light and third brake light operation
- Same-day repair if a bulb, socket, brake pad or minor part fails
- Certificate issued at the counter after passing inspection
Symptoms we fix
- DMV notice says a brake and lamp certificate is required
- Salvage title or revived salvage vehicle needing certification
- Out-of-state vehicle being registered in California
- Change of ownership requiring a brake and lamp inspection
- Brake light, headlight or turn signal not working
Auto Repair & Diagnostics
Brakes, engine work, electrical, A/C, timing belts, clutches and check engine lights on all makes.
Engine Diagnostics & Electrical
Pinpoint testing, not parts roulette.
Check engine lights, drivability faults, no-starts and electrical gremlins traced to the actual cause — all makes, with deep experience on Japanese vehicles.
A code tells us which circuit reported a problem, not which part failed. We scan every module, read freeze-frame and live data, then test the circuit — power, ground, signal, mechanical condition — until the fault is proven.
We have extensive experience with Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru and Mazda diagnostics, including VTEC, VVT-i, hybrid inverter, CVT, and direct-injection systems. You get the measured evidence and a written estimate before any repair starts. Diagnostic time is credited toward the repair when we do the work.
What's included
- Full-module scan with stored, pending and history codes
- Live data and freeze-frame analysis with a road test
- Misfire, compression and vacuum-leak testing
- Fuel pressure, injector and ignition testing
- Parasitic draw, voltage-drop and grounding tests
- Wiring repair, connector and harness work
- Sensor, module and relay replacement
- Written findings with photos and an estimate
Symptoms we fix
- Check engine, ABS or airbag light on
- Rough idle, misfire, hesitation or stalling
- Hard start, long crank or no start
- Battery drains overnight
- Intermittent electrical faults, windows, lights or accessories
Timing Belt & Water Pump Service
Do it on schedule, or do the engine later.
Interval timing belt replacement with pump, tensioner and seals done as one job — essential for Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru and Mazda engines.
On an interference engine a snapped timing belt bends valves and turns a maintenance item into an engine rebuild. Replacement is mileage-based, not symptom-based — there is rarely a warning first. This is especially critical for many Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru and Mazda interference engines.
Because most of the labor is access, we replace the water pump, tensioner, idlers and front seals at the same time. Doing them separately means paying the same labor twice.
What's included
- Timing belt replacement to factory interval
- Water pump, tensioner and idler pulleys
- Cam and crank seal replacement
- Serpentine belt and thermostat as needed
- Coolant drain, fill and bleed
- Cam timing verified before and after
- Road test and leak check
- Timing chain guide and cover service on chain engines
Symptoms we fix
- Due by mileage or by age, whichever comes first
- Ticking or slapping noise from the front of the engine
- Coolant seeping from the timing cover
- Rough running or a crank-with-no-start after a belt event
- No service history and past the interval
Clutch & Transmission Service
Diagnose the shift complaint before anyone talks about a rebuild.
Clutch replacement, transmission service, and shift-quality diagnosis for automatics and manuals — including CVT and Japanese transmissions.
Plenty of transmission complaints are not transmission failures. Low or burnt fluid, a failing solenoid, a bad speed sensor, an engine misfire under load — all of them feel like a slipping gearbox from the driver's seat.
We test first. We have extensive experience with Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru and Mazda automatics, CVTs and manual transmissions. If the answer is a clutch or a rebuild, you get a clear written price and a realistic timeline before anything comes apart.
What's included
- Clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing and pilot bearing replacement
- Flywheel resurfacing or replacement
- Hydraulic clutch master and slave cylinder service
- Automatic transmission fluid and filter service
- Shift solenoid, sensor and valve body diagnosis
- Transmission mount, axle and CV joint service

Engine Repair & Replacement
Big jobs quoted honestly, including when the car is not worth it.
Head gaskets, oil leaks, overheating repair and complete engine replacement for all makes — Japanese vehicles are a specialty.
Head gaskets, timing cover leaks, chronic overheating and oil consumption are big-ticket repairs, so the diagnosis has to be right. We pressure test, block test and inspect before quoting, and we photograph what we find.
We are especially experienced with Honda, Toyota, Nissan and Subaru engines — from B-series head gaskets and 2.5L Subaru head gasket service to Toyota 2AZ oil consumption and Nissan VQ timing chains. When an engine is past repair we quote a replacement with a warrantied unit — and if the number is more than the car is worth, we tell you that too.
What's included
- Cooling-system pressure testing and combustion leak (block) testing
- Head gasket and cylinder head service
- Valve cover, oil pan, rear main and timing cover leak repair
- Overheating diagnosis: radiator, thermostat, fan, water pump

- Post-repair break-in check and follow-up
Symptoms we fix
- Overheating, especially climbing grades or in traffic
- White smoke, sweet smell or coolant loss with no visible leak
- Milky oil or bubbles in the coolant reservoir
- Knocking, ticking or heavy blue smoke
- Adding a quart of oil between changes
Brake Repair & Service
Free brake inspection, measured — not guessed.
Pads, rotors, calipers, hoses, lines and brake fluid on trucks, cars and vans.
Brakes are the one repair nobody should be talked into or out of. We measure pad thickness and rotor runout, inspect calipers, hoses, hardware and fluid condition, then show you the numbers next to the manufacturer's minimum spec. If you have life left, we tell you how much.
We service everything from half-ton commuters to three-quarter and one-ton trucks that tow. Loaded trucks eat brakes differently, so we spec pads and rotors for how you actually use the vehicle, not for the cheapest line on the shelf.
What's included
- Free four-wheel brake inspection with measured pad and rotor specs
- Front and rear pad and rotor replacement
- Caliper, wheel-cylinder and hardware replacement
- Brake hose, hard line and master-cylinder service
- Brake fluid flush and moisture testing
- Parking-brake adjustment and cable service
- ABS sensor and module diagnostics
- Exhaust-brake and trailer-brake controller checks on trucks
Symptoms we fix
- Squealing, grinding or metal-on-metal noise
- Pedal pulsation or steering-wheel shake when stopping
- Soft, spongy or slowly sinking pedal
- Pulling to one side under braking
- Longer stopping distance, especially loaded or towing
Check Engine Light Diagnostics
A code is a clue. We find the cause.
Full-module scanning, live data and pinpoint testing on gas vehicles and Japanese makes.
Free code readers give you a number, not an answer. P0420 does not mean buy a catalytic converter and P0300 does not mean buy plugs. We scan every module, review freeze-frame data, then test the circuit or component the code is pointing at.
We have deep experience with Japanese makes: Honda VTEC and VCM issues, Toyota VVT-i and AFM sensors, Nissan CVT and VQ timing chains, Subaru misfire and head gasket patterns, and Mazda direct-injection carbon buildup. Diagnostic time is billed honestly at our hourly rate and credited toward the repair when we do the work. You get the fault, the evidence and a written estimate before anything is replaced.
What's included
- All-module scan: engine, transmission, ABS, body, aftertreatment
- Freeze-frame and live-data review under load
- Fuel-trim, misfire and injector contribution analysis
- Circuit testing with voltage drop and scope where needed
- Smoke testing for vacuum, boost and EVAP leaks
- Sensor verification against known-good values
- Written findings with photos and a repair estimate
- Post-repair verification drive and monitor completion
Symptoms we fix
- Check engine, wrench or service light on or flashing
- Rough idle, misfire, hesitation or stalling
- Loss of power or limp mode
- Poor fuel economy with no obvious cause
- Light returns after another shop cleared it
A/C & Heating Repair
Inland Empire summers do not forgive a weak A/C.
Evacuate and recharge, leak detection, compressor and blend-door repair.
We do not just top off refrigerant and send you out. Low charge means a leak, so we dye and pressure test the system, find where it is losing charge, and repair it before we recharge to the factory weight.
We service R-134a and R-1234yf systems on cars, trucks and work vans, including rear air on vans and SUVs, plus heater cores, blend doors, blower motors and cabin controls.
What's included
- Performance test with vent temperature and pressure readings
- Evacuate and recharge to factory refrigerant weight
- UV dye and electronic leak detection
- Compressor, condenser, evaporator and dryer replacement
- Expansion valve and orifice-tube service
- Blower motor, resistor and cabin-control repair
- Blend-door actuator and heater-core service
- Cabin air filter replacement
Symptoms we fix
- Air blows warm or only cools while moving
- A/C cools then stops after a few minutes
- Compressor clicking on and off rapidly
- Musty smell from the vents
- No heat or lukewarm heat in winter
Battery, Starting & Charging
Charging systems fail quietly. We test before we sell you a battery.
Batteries, alternators, starters, parasitic draws and wiring repair.
Most no-start calls are not the battery itself — they are a corroded terminal, a failing alternator, a bad ground or a parasitic draw quietly killing the charge overnight. We load test the whole system before selling you anything.
Trucks with dual batteries need matched, healthy pairs. One weak battery drags the other down and cooks the alternator, so we test and replace them as a set when they need it.
What's included
- Battery load test and state-of-health report
- Dual-battery testing and matched replacement on trucks
- Alternator output and ripple testing
- Starter draw testing and replacement
- Parasitic draw diagnosis with fuse-box isolation
- Terminal, cable and ground repair

Symptoms we fix
- Slow crank or clicking with no start
- Battery dead after sitting a day or two
- Dash lights dim or flicker at idle
- Battery or charging warning light on
- Corrosion built up on the terminals
Lighting, Lamps & Signals
A burned-out brake lamp is a ticket and a rear-end collision waiting to happen.
Headlights, brake lamps, turn signals, trailer lighting and auxiliary lights.
Lighting failures are rarely just a bulb. Brake lamps that stay dead after a new bulb usually point at a switch, socket corrosion, a ground or a body-control fault. We test the circuit, fix the cause and verify every lamp on the vehicle.
We also handle work-truck and towing lighting: 7-pin trailer connectors, brake-controller wiring, bed and utility lighting, light bars, backup lights and DOT clearance lamps on larger trucks.
What's included
- Headlight, low and high beam bulb and assembly replacement
- Brake lamp, third brake light and switch repair
- Turn signal, hazard and flasher-relay diagnosis
- Tail, marker, license and reverse lamp repair
- Trailer 7-pin and 4-flat connector repair
- Brake-controller installation and wiring
- Light bar, work light and auxiliary lighting install
- Headlight aiming and lens restoration
Symptoms we fix
- Brake lights not working or stuck on
- One or both headlights out
- Turn signal flashing fast or not at all
- Trailer lights dead or intermittent
- Dash warning for an exterior lamp
Radiator & Cooling System
Heat is what kills trucks. We take it seriously.
Radiators, water pumps, thermostats, hoses, fans and coolant service.
Overheating destroys head gaskets, injector cups and EGR coolers, and on a truck that is the difference between a hose repair and a teardown. We pressure test the system, check the cap, fan clutch, thermostat and coolant condition, and find the loss before it becomes an engine job.
We service factory-fill coolants to spec — the wrong coolant in a modern engine causes cavitation and liner damage over time.
What's included
- Cooling-system pressure and combustion-gas testing
- Radiator, hose and clamp replacement
- Water pump and thermostat replacement
- Fan clutch, electric fan and shroud service
- Coolant exchange with correct factory-spec coolant
- Heater core and bypass diagnosis
- Charge-air cooler and intercooler leak testing
- EGR cooler and oil cooler inspection on trucks
Symptoms we fix
- Temperature gauge climbing, especially towing or on grades
- Coolant puddle or sweet smell after driving
- Overflow tank overfilling or boiling
- Heater blows cold at idle
- White smoke or bubbles in the coolant
Exhaust & Muffler Repair
Quiet it down, seal it up, keep it legal.
Mufflers, pipes, flanges, manifolds and exhaust system repair.
Exhaust leaks are loud, they smell, and on a truck they cost you turbo response and aftertreatment performance. We repair cracked manifolds, blown gaskets, rusted flanges, broken hangers and failed mufflers on cars, trucks and work vans.
We keep systems street-legal and emissions-compliant — repairs and replacements, not delete work.
What's included
- Exhaust leak diagnosis with smoke testing
- Muffler and resonator replacement
- Pipe, flange, gasket and hanger repair
- Exhaust manifold and stud replacement
- Exhaust and clamp repair
- Catalytic converter and sensor replacement
- Exhaust-brake inspection on trucks

- Rattling or dragging under the vehicle
- Failed smog for exhaust leaks
Maintenance & Inspections
Oil changes, factory-interval service and pre-purchase inspections.
Oil Change & Scheduled Maintenance
The cheapest repair you will ever buy is the one you did on time.
Full-synthetic and conventional oil services with a real multi-point inspection — Japanese vehicles welcome.
An oil change is the best chance anyone gets to catch a problem while it is still small. Every oil service here includes a genuine multi-point inspection — fluids, filters, belts, hoses, brakes and leaks — with photos of anything we flag.
We follow factory maintenance schedules for Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda and Lexus 30k, 60k, 90k and 120k intervals, and we tell you what is actually due versus what a quick-lube menu wants to sell you.

Tune-Ups & Scheduled Maintenance
The cheapest repair is the one maintenance prevented.
Plugs, filters, fluids and factory-interval service that keeps a car passing smog and out of the shop — Japanese makes are a specialty.
Modern tune-ups are about ignition, air, fuel and fluid condition on a schedule your manufacturer already published. We follow your vehicle's factory interval, do the work with quality parts and tell you honestly what is not due yet.
We are especially familiar with Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru and Mazda service schedules, spark intervals, VVT services and fluid specs. Well-maintained engines pass smog. Most emissions failures we see are maintenance failures wearing a check engine light.

Pre-Purchase Inspection
An hour of our time can save you an engine.
Bumper-to-bumper inspection with photos before you buy a used truck or car.
Used trucks hide expensive history. We scan every module for stored and history codes, check for deleted or tuned emissions equipment, look for coolant and oil cross-contamination, test injector balance and inspect the frame, brakes, driveline and body before you hand over money.
You get a written report with photos and a realistic estimate of what the vehicle will need in the next twelve months, so you can negotiate or walk away with facts.
